Explore pine barrens and agricultural cranberry bogs located on A.D. Makepeace Company property in Wareham, MA, and study representative plants of this ecoregion. Practice identifying native, non-native, and non-native highly competitive (i.e., “invasive”) species of plants found in this area. Compare natural vegetation with vegetation found in commercially grown mineral bogs, and explore links between plants and geology, soil science, and cranberry agriculture. This field study includes concurrent walks in the forest perimeter and cranberry bog transect, with opportunities to practice using field guides and iNaturalist to identify species, as well as brief presentations and open Q and A about commercial cranberry practices, sustainability, soil composition, and more with A.D. Makepeace staff.
