Saturday, October 3, 2026, 10:30-4:30PM

Overview

Learn to identify many of the native New England shrub species based on variations in size, shape, color, bark, flower, and fruit. You will develop skills that will help you identify any shrub through dichotomous keys, field guides, or verifying plant ID apps. This course begins with a brief presentation on fundamentals of shrub identification. Following this presentation, students will use field guides, apps, and other resources to learn more about a small group of shrubs, and to develop memorable strategies for sharing their learning about these shrubs with classmates. This course will challenge you to learn inductively, moving from examples that you locate in the field to more general principles and patterns.
